Getting started
Who is LawFive for?
Soccer and football referees, and assistants and fourth officials, from youth games to adult leagues: anyone who wants the match on their wrist and a record of every one they've done.
How do I get it?
LawFive is by invitation for now. Send a note and we'll send you one. The Android and Garmin apps are in testing on their way to Google Play and the Connect IQ Store; the iPhone, Wear OS and Apple Watch apps are in early testing.
What does it cost?
Nothing while it's by invitation. The hosted service will keep a free plan; a paid plan with more room may come later. Running your own server costs nothing but the machine it runs on.
Do I need an account?
Not to run a match: a quick match on the watch works with no account and no phone. An account keeps your matches, syncs them across your watch, phone and the web, and brings your schedule to the watch.
Watches and phones
Which watches does it work on?
Garmin: the Forerunner 265, 265S and 965; the fēnix 7 and 8 families and the epix (Gen 2) and epix Pro; and the Venu 2, 2S, 2 Plus, 3, 3S, 4 and X1. Wear OS and Apple Watch apps are in early testing. See On the watch.
Does the watch need my phone during a match?
No. The watch runs the whole match by itself. On Garmin, syncing goes through the Garmin Connect app on your phone when it's near; whatever's waiting goes up at the next chance. Wear OS and Apple Watch sync over their own connection.
What if there's no signal at the ground?
The phone apps keep your matches, venues and crew without signal, and save changes until there's a connection. On Android, the phone also holds what your Garmin watch sends until it can reach the server.
Will it run my watch's battery down?
A match uses about what a soccer activity with GPS does, as that's what LawFive records on Garmin. Charge before a day of several matches, as you would for any GPS activity, and tell us how yours lasts.
Can I change what the watch shows?
Yes: one clock or two, how each counts, a ring or the time of day, and team names or just the score. Set it up on the website or a phone; see On the watch.
Your matches and data
Can I bring in my existing matches?
Yes. Import matches from a spreadsheet (CSV or Excel), with the columns described in the docs. Tracks from another watch or app come in as activity files (FIT, GPX or TCX) on a played match.
Does it work with my assignor?
LawFive has an API with keys and webhooks, so an app that sends your assignments can add and change your matches, and your Android phone can tell you when it does. Ready-made connections to assignor sites are planned; until then, import their schedule as a spreadsheet.
Who can see my matches?
Only you, unless you turn on a share link for a match. There are no ads and no analytics, and your data isn't sold. See the privacy policy.
Can I take my data with me?
Yes, at any time: download everything as one file, with your tracks and photos, or your matches as a spreadsheet. A download can be restored into another LawFive server.
How do I delete my account?
From Settings on the website or a phone, or see Delete your account.
Running your own
Can I run LawFive on my own server?
Yes. The server runs in Docker on a machine of your own, and the same apps connect to it: you choose the server when you sign in or link a watch. Install a server.
Is it open source?
It will be: the code goes public with its license soon. The docs at lawfive.dev are a preview ahead of that.
Can I build on it?
Yes: there's an API with keys and webhooks for your own tools. Use the API.
